Ayoe Angelica

With the critically acclaimed album Syn, Danish-Ethiopian singer Ayoe Angelica marks a long-awaited and deeply personal return to the music scene. After years as a sought-after vocalist for stars like Alphabeat and Rasmus Seebach, she has created a work that uniquely merges Danish cultural heritage with a modern, soulful sound. 

The project is rooted in exclusive access to the often-overlooked adult poetry of her grandmother, the iconic author Cecil Bødker, which Ayoe Angelica has been granted the rights to transform into music. 

The story behind the music is as compelling as the sound itself; it is the tale of a special bond between two generations and an extraordinary family history that began in 1960s Ethiopia when Cecil Bødker adopted Ayoe’s mother. 

The concert experience invites the audience into an intimate space defined by Ayoe Angelica’s raw and distinctive voice, weaving pop, jazz, and soul together with Cecil Bødker’s visionary thoughts on consumerism, climate, and human transience. 

By bringing these timeless poems into the present, Ayoe Angelica creates a performance that speaks to both literary enthusiasts and music lovers alike, beautifully proving how we carry our ancestors' legacies forward in a new, vibrant form.

Syn was created in collaboration with composer Nicolai Kornerup, film composer Christian Vinten, and cellist Live Johanson.
